The hole is greater than the sum of the past
Avid grammarians desist! The spellings and punctuation of the title are intentional. I will be brief. Holes are multifunctional. They can be good and they can be bad. Holes in space provide portals to other universes (probably…this is one of those strongly supported theories that cannot be subjected to the usual attemtpts at disproof. Going through a black hole is a one way trip to certain death, and anyway, the nearest one is so far away we would be dead before we even got close).
Holes can also be metaphorical. People talk about disappearing down a big black hole. As though this is a bad thing. Me; I like the idea of going through a hole, as long as I come out whole on the other side. In fact, that is the whole point; or the hole point.
Here is one simple exercise involving a hole. Imagine, for a moment (and it will help you a great deal if you imagine you are really relaxed first and if you imagine your eyes are closed they probably are even though the lack of punctuation may be a little less confusing although on the hole this makes sense)….imagine for a moment you are drifting through space and that you are protected by an impenetrable force field. As you approach a black hole (really a star that has collapsed under the force of its own incredible gravity…a bit like some grown ups I have met)…you get a sense of excitement….an expectation of something momentous….something wonderful, about to happen.
You close your eyes even though they are already closed because inside your mind they are open and you need to close them on the inside to get the full effect. When you open your eyes again, you emerge in a new universe in which the best possible event you could ever imagine is now unfolding before your very eyes, which are now open on the inside, although not on the outside. This event is rooted in your past but bears no relation to it, having increased in positive intensity by a factor of, well, let’s say, infinity, but you can go for a few billion , if you are more conservative than me.
Simply wallow in the positive experience for as long as you want to….for hours….all day even. But ten minutes will do to begin with.
Now decide what really matters in your life.
Take any appropriate action. In your own space and time.
Last week, a real hole appeared outside my house. We had to call the police and the council as there was a risk of buses falling into the hole. Sadly it has now been filled in. But I am not sad. I am whole again.

A while ago I advertised a golfing network session as a ‘whole in won’. Do you think you can fit this into your analogy? If so I’d like to retain the copyright on it - if this were at all possible …..

An the whole point of the exercise is…..? Do I have to start unwhole to benefit by becoming whole? The black possibility of disappearing if I ‘did it’ wrong seemed dark to me. So, you see, I’m not very adventurous - maybe that could be something where a hole could help?
